Bear Spray Holder for a Bike

Problem Statement:

The client does a lot of trail biking and didn’t want to have to carry their bear spray container in the back of their jersey pocket. They wanted a way to strap it to a place on their bike normally design for a water bottle cage but couldn’t find anything on the market they wanted.

Design Thoughts:

This had to be quick access, but can’t fall out on bumpy rides. It needed to fit the industry standard screw pattern for water bottle cages.

Solution:

I created a holster for the bear spray canister with a velcro strap for quick grab and spray when needed but still secure over time. It comes out by tipping it forward rather than “up and out” which makes it easier to maneuver and get quickly. A hole was put in the bottom to allow for drainage of water, and it was even printed in a color that complimented their bike as well!

Motorola Radio Battery Bank

Problem Statement:

This public service client must carry extra radio batteries in their vehicle as people would come to change them out during long deployments. The batteries were loose on a shelf making them susceptible to boucing around and damage.

Design Thoughts:

The batteries would need to be secured and it would be nice to free up shelf space which is at a premium. The way to secure it must be intuitive, and quick to deploy.

Solution:

I mimicked the same radio latching mechanism that the battery uses naturally so they would clip in and out just like they do when in use. This was easy for people to understand how to release and store them. I also put flanges on either side for mounting to the wall freeing up space. Lastly I made a 1, 2, and 4 battery versions to scale as needed. They were even printed in different colors so everyone knew which batteries were charged, and which needed recharging.

French Cleat Attachements

Problem Statement:

A woodworker needed some special French cleat holders for their tools. Normally all the French cleat holders would be made out of wood, but these were either not possible due to their small size or would take way to long to make. I worked with the client on customization for their needs

Design Thoughts:

Color coding would help with a quick scan of tools to quickly identify what they needed. The holders also needed to be able to rest on a table standalone to bring them to the work.

Solution:

As French cleats are set at a 45 degree angle, it was easy to make the “front” whatever the client needed and the back be the standard angle. The pictures say it all! For the drill bits, the inside even comes out so they are swappable.
